What is an IMEI number?

An IMEI number is the International Mobile Equipment Identity number. This is a unique number that is assigned to all mobile phones and smartphones, similar to a serial number. The IMEI number is typically 15 digits long and you can find it in multiple places.

You can use the IMEI number to identify a device that uses mobile networks, as well as to identify the mobile device and prevent theft. If a device can be identified using the IMEI number then a thief cannot change the SIM card on a phone and expect to keep the phone. If your phone does get stolen, you can call your network and instruct them to blacklist the phone using its IMEI number.

Your IMEI number is hard-coded into your device hardware and it’s almost impossible to change without permanently damaging the device. There are plenty of people out there who will deceive you and sell you counterfeit phones. These phones have bad IMEI numbers. If you have purchased a used phone, it’s important to first check if the phone’s IMEI number is legitimate.

If you would you like to check whether your iPhone is real and not a fake, you can do so by entering your IMEI number into an IMEI checker site. This kind of site will give you all of the information about your phone and whether or not it’s an invalid phone.

Remember, your IMEI number is like a serial number to your mobile device and when you purchase a phone, that designated IMEI number identifies the phone. This number is useful when unlocking your phone and in order to prevent it from theft.
